Nike+ Human Race 10k

While Nike is not doing the massive Human Race events that it did last year they are still doing some cool social networking outreach in regards to the event. This year they have found Ambassadors for the event. Young athletic people around the country to promote the virtual aspect of the event instead of localized and organized races. They have selected 10 of them. Each with their own Facebook Fan page and an active Twitter account. I have taken the last week following them on each of these pages and some are a lot more active than others. The most responsive person that I have found is Ken who has named his team daRevoluCHIN. Thus I have decided to join his team on the challenge. Oh it also helps that he lives in Chicago. A nice local team.

But back to the Human Race. It seems to me that Nike is obviously being affected by the recession and has decided to scale back (considerably) its big event. Last year there were runs all over the country with concerts after the races. From LA to NYC, Portland to Chicago. There were dozens all across the USA let alone more around the world. This year... just three in the the U.S. Another 27 around the world. Its unfortunate because the Nike+ Human Race could become a big time running event if they would try to continue pushing it and to improve the Nike+ system/website. I strongly believe they are missing out on some great opportunities.

But regardless, I like the system and will run a 10k to upload onto the website on October 24th to join thousands of other people around the world.
