This is my first four day training week in the new training program and as such today is the first time I have run back to back days in quite a while.
There are some lessons to be learned in running in consecutive days. Number one: don't go all out the day before like I did by setting a personal record in a two mile run. It just hinders the effort that follows the next day.
While this four mile run was at a good solid pace I found myself aching near my calf muscles. It is a pain that I am familiar with from last year when I ran in older shoes. I will have to take care of it with some good stretching and icing the areas down at night.
It is best to use the runs as a time to follow a steady but not too strenuous of a pace.
Here is today's 4.21 on Runkeeper's map (Will try to have a new Nike+ sensor for Thursday's run):
The mile splits were pretty good as well:
Mile 1 - 11:01
Mile 2 - 10:10
Mile 3 - 10:20
Mile 4 - 10:09
Once again the good news is that I am going out slow and picking up steam as the run progresses. The fastest mile was the last one and continues to show me that I am improving. The final result is 4.21 miles in 43:33 and the four miles being completed in 41:40.
Exciting... let's just hope these aches subside for Thursday's run.
